The Stain Covering the Heart: Keeping the Heart Pure

     Allah  says

    كَلَّا ۖ بَلْ ۜ رَانَ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِم مَّا كَانُوا۟ يَكْسِبُونَ

No! Rather, the stain has covered their hearts of that which they were earning.

    [83:14]

Meaning, The only thing that blocked their hearts from believing in it is the dark covering cast over it from the many sins and wrong they committed that has covered up their hearts.

This dark covering known as Raan overcomes the hearts of the disbelievers

As the Prophet  said "Verily, when the servant commits a sin a black spot appears upon his heart. If he abandons the sin, seeks forgiveness, and repents, then his heart will be polished. If he returns to the sin, the blackness will be increased until it overcomes his heart. It is the covering that Allah has mentioned: No, but on their hearts is a covering because of what they have earned.”

    [Sunan al-Tirmidhi 3334]

Sins strengthen the Shaytaan that accompanies you and the Nafs against you.

It makes it harder for the Noor of Allah  to enter the Heart.

Imam As Shafi'i رحمه الله went to his teacher complaining of bad memory,

So his teacher advised him to stop sinning.

Because the Noor of Ilm is prevented from the heart when sins are committed.

A person will commit a sin, and it will affect him little, but when it eventually builds up, his heart soon becomes hard and averse to the Ayaat of Allah ,

And this humiliates a person internally and externally.

For example, The person who commits Zina gains a bad reputation, and their own Imaan weakens when they can't find a righteous spouse.

The girl is known as a slut, and the Boy is known as a player.

Both are a humiliation which decreases them before Allah  and the people!

How many people do you see, they didn't pray Salah when they were young and now in their middle years and older years they struggle?

How many do you see, they wasted their youth, and now they struggle to recite Qur'an in their old age?

How many do you see, forgot Allah  and by the end of it, lost their Deen entirely?

There has to come a point where you say

    Stop! Stop!

And you repent to Allah !

Our hearts are never in the same condition all the time. It is therefore important that we ask Allah  to keep our hearts firm upon His Deen.

It is reported by Anas رضي الله عنه : The Messenger of Allah  would often make this dua:

    يَا مُقَلِّبَ الْقُلُوبِ ثَبِّتْ قَلْبِي عَلَى دِينِكَ

O turner of the hearts, affirm my heart upon your religion!

    [Sunan Tirmidhi 2140, Grade: Sahih]

Learn this dua and make it a habit to always make this dua.

May Allah  keep our hearts firm upon His Deen.

     آمِيْن
